Had some nice blooms from this one, repotted into a basket as it seems like it's going to be a big one. Newest growth that bloomed had a giant black patch on it, I cut it back, the spot was squishy. Next pseudobulb has a small black spot on it but I'm keeping an eye on it, will cut if it grows much more.

Concerned about the older pseudobulbs. There are similar black spots but also white patches. They may only be sunburn as they are dry and don't seem to be advancing.

Plant looks great, lots of new root growth and seems to be developing 2 new growths from the same pseudobulb. I've not seen that before so maybe one will win out over the other.

I think I agree with you farley about sunburn. If the orchid can handle it, and it's all dry, and the peak sun intensity doesn't get that strong all the time ------ then don't worry about it too much.

Is that orchid sun-hardened already?

I'd say mostly, it's been indoors/outdoors a bit since I got it in the spring when the weather was cold.
Brought it inside when it was in bloom for a few weeks. That was at least 6 weeks ago so its been outside all the time since.

It's been tricky for me to try and monitor my plants' sun time. My schedule has changed so I'm not at home as much I used to be so I'm guessing they didn't get as gentle acclimation as they should have. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to do that yet!

This is the third plant out of that batch that I've had to do some trimming on. Possibly something from sharing a shipping box?

Hard to say. If it's in a box for a long time with no air movement, some sort of activity eg. fungal ... could start up.

For my plants, when they arrive by mail, I generally spray the whole plant with mancozeb before potting into my own pots.
