red spider mites and webbing
Default red spider mites and webbing

To my dismay, today, I discovered a small web with a number of red spider mites under the leaves of a small adenium obesum seedling growing near my dendrobium phal. I thoroughly flushed the infested plant leaves with a spray of water, applied dish liquid to the leaves and flushed again. It's now isolated, but I'm not sure if the soil of the infested plant must be treated too or with what. I haven't noticed anything on the den, but, to be safe, I also flushed the leaves of the den with water spray. Any suggestions about what to do next?

This will likely only work if you have just a few plants. I had one Dendrobium nobile that I brought home with a mild infestation unbeknownst to me. I isolated it and drenched it with an organic insecticidal soap. I think I had to do weekly applications for about 6 weeks before they were gone. I think the mite life cycle is about 7 days so you’ll have some that are “untouchable” eggs which necessitates a few cycles of treatment.
