New leaves dying on cattleya

Hi,
I have a cattleya and the new leaves keep dying. The leaves have been dying for a while so I repotted it into a bigger container about a month ago. It does have some new roots starting. I water/fertilize once a week for 3 weeks and then flush with water the 4th week. It's in a east facing window. Just wondering what is going on and how to fix it.

Your Catt seems to be an unifoliate, i.e. with only one leaf per growth. This means that what is drying are sheaths from where the blooms come. Some plants bloom from dry sheaths so...wait and see.

In large bark like that watering once a week is probably not enough. When underwatered, new Cattleya growths frequently turn black and die. The problem is not fungal.

rbarata is talking about the smaller thing with rounded end growing at the top of the pseudobulb. Is that what you meant by what is dying? I was writing about new growths coming from the base.

Your orchid is perfectly healthy, leaves look fine, nothing dehydrated, doesn't need anything changed, seems to be doing what it should be doing, ie producing sheaths that dry out.
These sheaths should produce flower spikes in spring.

At the moment, your orchid appears to look just fine.

Once a week watering could be too little though.

It all probably depends on your local environment - the humidity etc. If it turns out that the watering schedule isn't enough, then your orchid could slowly go backwards in health ------ as in it could slowly dehydrate. So keep an eye out for that kind of thing.

Also ....... how do you do the watering? Watering can? Water wand?

I do my watering each morning - like shown in this video here (link), which would most likely work well with that bigger pot of yours.

In the video, good drainage pots are used. And the pots sit on drainage grates.

Again, I agree. There is nothing wrong with your plant. It looks robust and healthy. The only thing you need to do is water more often, or pot it in a smaller bark mix, or a bark mix with some more water retentive materials mixed in (peat chunks, rockwool, coir, whatever you prefer.)

Your plant is healthy; it just needs more water.

So was I, and thought you were saying you were losing new leaves. I looked at pictures again and don’t see any dying leaves. So I’ll shut up until there’s an explanation.
