Default New problem for me. Brown spots on new paph. Sunburn?.

I got a paph. Dollgoldi last week. I put it in my East window kitchen countertop where my other paphs and phals are. And I have been slowly pushing it up a little closer to the window. Today I came home to discover some small brown spotting on the second leaf from the top on both sides. Is this sunburn? Something to be more concerned about?

It could be something more concerning - I would not rule it out but could it be that you splashed some water on to the leaves?

Water droplets can act like mini magnifying glasses so although the plant does not seem to have suffered from sun stress if those spots were not causes by water droplets sitting on the leaf I would be a bit more concerned.

Not typical sunburn.

It looks a bacterial infection (St. Agustine has some similar photos under the name Pseudomonas).

Crap. I don't believe it would be sunburn from water droplets. I wiped some copper fungicide on the leaves yesterday. I guess tonight I will put hydrogen peroxide on the spots. Then maybe tomorrow wipe the leaves with Neem oil? I don't think I have any general bactericide.... I bought four other paphs at the same time (reputable source), but I took them to work. No signs of spots on them yet

Agreed. If the leaf warmed enough to burn, the water would evaporate first.

Good.

No and No. Copper compounds can be bactericidal and fungicidal, so you've done what you can. The existing damage is not repairable, but you probably have already stopped further infection. Watch the spots; if they continue to grow, remove that leaf and dab cinnamon powder on the wound. it is a desiccant with topical bactericidal and fungicidal properties.

Drugstore hydrogen peroxide will decompose instantly and you'll be left with more drops of water on the leaves, creating more incubators for the pathogens.

Unlike water that will evaporate, oils DO sit on the leaves for an extended period of time and have been shown to accelerate burning when plants are exposed to direct sunlight.

Thanks for the advice Ray. I guess I have been blessed. Other than a horrific epidemic of scale ~15 years ago (when I first started caring for orchids and it wiped out the 5 I had plus other plants) I really haven't come across any disease in my home. So I am a bit clueless on what to do when it happens.
Hopefully the copper will halt whatever is going on at the moment.
