Root Rot

Hi!
So I just acquired this plant recently and I went to re pot it and it's roots look sad to me. Even some of the green ones are feeling a bit mushy.It was packed in a lot of sphagnum. There's like one nice, firm, green root. I have no idea how to treat this orchid. I know too little. I'm afraid to re pot it and it and it be too moist and whatever fungus/bacteria could go crazy. But I'd like to encourage root growth...and doesn't that require moisture? How should I treat this little plant? Thanks in advance for all the expertise!

I would approach that like this:

• Let it dry out, unpotted, for a day or two and reassess the condition of the roots. If they're crispy and papery, remove that part.
• Immerse the entire plant in a KelpMax solution for several hours. it will definitely stimulate the growth of new roots.
• Pot it up in your preferred potting mix for your environment. Something coarse yet water retentive.
• After potting, water it in with the KelpMax solution, and invert a clear plastic bag over the plant and pot to trap the humidty, preventing desiccation. Do not close the bag.
• Keep it very warm and don't let any direct sun come near it.

In a few weeks, you'll see new roots emerging, and that's when you can return to normal culture.
