Default Making additional holes in plastic pots

For those of you who require additional drainage holes in plastic pots I have found that a taper drill is the perfect tool . I used to use a soldering iron to burn holes in the pots , until one day I let the iron get too hot and the smoke burned the heck out of my eyes , the smoke , I found out to my cost , is very toxic !!

That looks like a good sort of drill, not tried that.

My husband uses one of his standard drills when I need new holes in pots. We tend to find that you have to use a small drill, followed by a slightly larger one followed by the size you want, otherwise there is a tendency to crack the pots.

Yes they crack the pots and the tapered drill bit does not, it cuts a nice clean hole

Is that a bit that can be put on a regular drill, or a whole piece of equipment?

Yes it has a shank on it just like a normal drill It comes in a set of three or they can also be purchased separately.

Thanks Des, i looked for one of these at Bunnings the other day and i could only find large taper ones with holes at least a centimetre or two across. I didn't see small ones like that but i will have another look, it is a perfect size.

I admit i did purchase a soldering iron because i had to put holes in pots that night but ill keep this in mind for a permanent solution.
