Default Nice hanging basket

Just sharing. Found this 12" metal, coconut fiber-lined basket at Walmart that would make a great home for a large orchid. It's a little deep but could be partially filled with peanuts.

I have one just like this and chose not to go orchids. Think it might not be right proportions and difficult to repot.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Peanuts to fill the depth and wire cutters or tin snips at repotting time.

There's a good chance of roots growing all the way down into the coco fiber. It's a lovely basket...if I saw it, I'd probably pick one up too...but I agree with Ross, I don't think it's a good place for an orchid.

Let us know what you decide

Purchased this large container in advance for a large rapidly growing Catt. that will need a new home next spring. I plan to fill the long base with styro peanuts or pebbles as it is too deep.

Last year I was forced to repot a large Catt. and had a hard time finding a large enough pot that was appropriate for orchids. Finally found a ceramic woven lattice design pot and lined it with fiber to prevent loss of potting medium. So far, so good. The Catt. is thriving. I hope I didn't make the wrong decision. See photo...

I can't see in the picture...is the bottom of this planter the same as the original one in question?

Thank you. It's similar, only, heavy glazed ceramic with 1 1/2" open lattice, lined with coco fiber, and not as deep. It was darn near impossible for me to find a pot that was large enough in diameter with good air circulation and not too deep.
