Yea the cape is pretty much screwed. I'm in Alva and so far only the south side of the river is evacuated.

May god watch over us all!

This is the National Hurricane Center of the US Government National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration:
National Hurricane Center

This is the interactive map predicting storm surge flooding:
HURRICANE IRMA
Click on on the desired area and zoom in.

vvesto lives inland of Fort Meyers, on the west coast. The potential storm surge flood map of Cape Coral, just across the Caloosahatchee River from Ft. Meyers, looked like this before the hurricane hit, and after. The black is water: the Caloosahatchee River empties into the Gulf of Mexico at the bottom left of the images.

FEMA only give her junk money. Better than nothing that 83% was the last percent I heard that didnt have flood insurance here in houston... *flood insurance , Its cheap*

I can't imagine not having flood insurance. I had it even when I lived out in Iowa (I was close to the Missouri River. Sorry to say. I feel sorry for the gulf coast, but the people in those little islands out there! That must be terrible having nowhere to run! It will take Cuba, the Virgin Islands, the Florida Keys a lot of work to get back to liveability.

RJ I'm glad you are alright. I wonder how vesto came out? We don't have flood insurance here, but I dare it to flood where I live.

While we were worried about OB members who live in the areas Irma impacted, today I just came across an article in the local paper about an incredibly stupid Dutch university student who is obsessed with hurricanes and intentionally flew to FL from the Netherlands so that she could stand outside in the winds and eye of Irma to take selfies and get her hurricane high. She was actually disappointed that Irma was 'only' Cat 3 in FL, and that she couldn't go to Sint Maarten to start in Cat 5 winds. Her dream is to stand outside during a Cat 5... I understand when people storm chase if it has a scientific purpose, but this 'selfie chasing' is just plain reckless.

When she heard that Irma was intensifying she was at family gathering to celebrate some big event, and abruptly left partway through, just so she could run home and try to book a flight. Uh, what?
