Beautiful structures, guys! I'm jealous of you folks who can grow outside all year long, right now I'm moving my cool-tolerant species back in before we get a real freeze. If Florida had mountains I would definitely move there...

Thanks everybody..

And thanks Brady. I will have beams up on the top. I was planning on a shade cloth cover. I didn't know the rain could be an issue. Most of mine live outside in my tree-shaded fence zone. May have to reconsider.
Funny, I was looking at the corrugated panels at Lowe's yesterday. Just down the aisle from the lattice sheets.

Also don't know if I want to fill in the sides with wood lattice.. More dark brown color.. Maybe the sand or tan colored plastic sheets ?

Hey Nat ! We have mountains down here, but it takes the trash haulers about 20 years to get to building the golf course on top.. You wouldn't want to live near them.. LOL !

Back at it when the rain quits.. N2FL

Latest photo with second shelf added..
I have not secured the shelves yet, or added the trim to keep the plants from rolling off.. I need some lattice, roof beams and it will be close..

Again, every piece of wood is cut, stained twice, dried, then sealed with Thompson's. All screws are pre-drilled and treated. Every board is gapped and tilted to run off water.

Ta-Daaa ! Here is the finished corner arbor. I have not put the shade cloth on the roof or face yet. This arbor faces west, and will need shade from the setting sun in the hottest months.

Looking up at the roof beams..

Things I learned:
1. Buy all your P/T lumber from the same source: Different Store chains buy different lumber, and the colors don't match when staining. Some wood is even waterproofed, which makes staining and sealing difficult.
2. Do NOT build a shade house or arbor at ground level. It makes twice the bull-work digging out the subfloor and protecting against wood rot on the posts. TWICE the work !!
3. Let the P/T wood dry out for days or a week before staining and hanging. I let it dry in the sun and turned it over twice a day to the side it was warping to. I only lost one board to warpage, and used it for subfloor brace.
4. Figure out the needs for the job, then buy twice the screws and stain you think you will need. It saves gas..

Working on the good days, and with a sick family member, this took me a month to complete. Now I will set up the irrigation: A line from the house for routine watering, with a sprinkler line spliced in with a valve for watering when I am out of town.
Now to harvest a bunch of the Schomb stems...
Ciao !
Marc

What an ambitious project ! It takes a lot of patience...I am good with tools and good at assembly...but a month to work on that project is too long...I would have given up on the third day...
