Default September in the Shade House

There aren't many blooms right now, but there is a lot of new growth, several dendrobium spikes, and a few sheaths and buds on the cattleyas. I was beginning to give up on any blooms from my catasetum but she pushed out a little spike just a few days ago.

Thanks for posting the pics. Your shade house gives me some ideas for what I want built on our deck (All I have to do is get my husband to move his pond--he has five, so I think one might go...). I won't be able to use it year round , but I will settle for the few months that Ohio weather is kind enough to put the orchids outside. Your shade house is a wonderful place, even without a lot of blooms--thanks for sharing

Thank you.

Hey, maybe your husband could build you a shadehouse around one of his ponds. That would look cool, and the plants would love it.

My plants can stay out most of the year, but even the Sunshine State gets too cold for them sometimes. I used to bring them all in the house. This year I can't do that because they've grown a lot and many of them are mounted. Looks like mine will be destined for the garage this winter.

What a beautiful grow area. It looks so relaxing. I just love how the light comes through the lattice and lights up the area. All your orchids look like they love it there too!

Junebug, What a great idea! I don't know why I didn't think of it myself--( It would solve a sticky situation because he wasn't real keen on the idea of moving one of his ponds). And that arrangement would be beautiful, too. I will definitely give this some more thought--THANKS!

Thanks to all for the nice comments.

The shade house was built about a year ago and it still needs a floor and a few other adjustments. The plants don't mind, though. They're just relieved to be off their underlit back porch prison.

The shade house has enriched my life too. It's my sanctuary from the daily stresses of life.

Thank you. It is like "orchid heaven" to me. I always feel wonderful and at peace when I'm in the shade house...blooms or no blooms.
