Sand Fleas are small crustaceans (about 1 1/2" long) that bury themselves along the edge of the surf. They are a popular surf fishing bait. The catcher is a rigid wire basket attached to a long pole and is used to scoop and sift the wet sand. You can also catch sand fleas by scooping up large handfuls or bucketfuls of moist sand and tossing it on a dryer location. The sandfleas will scamper and you can grab them. Scooping by hand is kind of rough on the hands and nails so the catcher really comes in handy. It saves your back too. Here's a photo.

Because of your pics, Ive now added this to my "list." Those colors are amazing and the texture of the flower goes from wax to fuzz on the lip. Ive never even considered this genus before. Thanks for the enlightenment!

Don't forget...it's scented too. This one would probably grow very well in Hawaii's consistant climate and you won't be disappointed. The next test for mine will be how it handles cooler temps. We rarely freeze but occasionally the mercury drops to 34 degrees. Maybe I should consider keeping a heating pad on hand just in case. I wonder if any OB members have used them for their plants.
