Default Calypso bulbosa var. americana

We found this other variety of the Fairy Slipper orchid in Mount Robson Provincial Park. It is sometimes called the Eastern Fairy Slipper or Hider-of-the-North.

Thanks, Nick. It's one of my favorites. We go on a hike every spring to a place where the other variety of these grows by the thousands along with a rare trillium and several other orchids and wildflowers.

Ron,

I love this one. It was actually my first orchid to see in the wild when I lived in MT for a few summers. It may have been the other variety, I don't remember the the yellow. Anyways, great pic!

If you saw it in Montana it probably was the yellow bearded variety. I don't think the white bearded variety even grows there. Thanks for the compliment.
