Default Ghost orchid - reprise.

Last year, a colleague and I hiked deep into the Fakahatchee Strand swamp to try to find ghost orchids in flower...after much searching, we were rewarded with the sight of this orchid in full flower. This particular plant will always be special to me...let's hope it remains alive and flowering for many years to come:

Ghost Orchid, Frog Orchid, Palm Polly (Dendrophylax lindenii) - Florida's Native and Naturalized Orchids

I had the opportunity to revisit this plant this year, and here is one photo that I shot of it:

Interestingly enough, it has the same curl to the dorsal sepal this year as last year...each ghost flower has a bit of a unique size and shape, as is evidenced by other images on my ghost orchid gallery page:

Taken with natural light, Canon Digital Rebel XTi, 1/8s, f5.6, ISO 100, EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens.

Enjoy!
