Default Northern White Fringed Orchis

Hey all,

Was up in boreal habitat in New York when I came across this species in a bog. I couldn't get close to the orchid and the sun was creating lots of shimmer.

I think it's amazing how you guys can recognize an orchid growing in the wild like that. I see wild flowers, would never recognize them as being orchids.

I'm with you, especially from afar.

Well, I was birding, so I had binoculars and a spotting scope.

Very cool. I always try to find wild orchids but I never have. Well I don't think so anyway. I just don't always get on the Mountain when it's time or do I even know what that is.

Birding for orchids, love it! Our birding book also got a new friend - a field guide to orchids in SA, so we'll also be combining these two activities wherever possible!

Great. Would like to get a Latin botanical name.
