My mother has a greenhouse where she raises all sorts of exotic orchids for her own pleasure, I would love to find the naked man orchid for her, by plant or by seed, does anyone have a link to a nursery that is distributing them? |

utb, I do not think naked orchid is anywhere for sale, it is protected, however one member from Germany posted in this thread about very similar orchid, writing that they are actually for sale, so you may try to contact him and get some more info:-)

I want to clarify a few things:
Orchis italica and related Orchis simia and anthropophora prefer warmer and drier places. Hence in Germany Orchis simia is limited to only a few small habitats.
I have a website adress where a man describes that he purchased a propagated Orchis simia around 2010. The plant grows in his biotop but has not yet flowered.
I also know that techniques and agars for artificial propagation of Dactylorhiza, Orchis and Ophrys are known. There are laboratories who offer propagation if seed is delivered.
Some species and hybrids of the above mentioned genera (Dactylorhiza, Orchis, Ophrys) are legally offered here.
But as for Orchis simia I am more sceptical. There will never be a propagation in large quantities in my country. Only a few private yards and gardens will be suitable. And lady slippers for outdoors are a much better business. Nurseries for ladyslippers are located in an area which is too cold for Orchis simia.
The small number of enthusiasts who did the pioneer work however will probably not run an international sale.
There is a chance that in France and Italy the warm loving orchids for outdoors are more merchantable, but I do not know.

Thank you so much for your replies, your kind hospitality is appreciated. Still, if I could find someone who has seeds, would make a great companion for mom's tolumnia bahamensis dancing lady orchids which she has been repotting and tending at least 30 years. Blessings on your blossoms.

This is a great find TommyMiami. If these were easy to grow and readily available, I would buy it. But it is also good to see it here on the OB and we can have fun with it. I have to say, God (if you are so inclined) or nature has such a great sense of humor! And us humans, have such dirty minds! LOL!!!!
Do you think it would be considered sacriligeos if I did get one and have it live next to my Peristeria elata?
