Default Ghost Orchid - Naples, Florida

This specific flower is what got my into orchids. I was so inspired that something so rare and beautiful would be so close to me that I decided to learn more about orchids, and fell in love with them.

I plan to go see this flower around my birthday, in January. I would love to be able to get pictures, and will share with you my further plans.

This orchid reportedly has 9 blooms, 3 times the usual amount! I'm very excited to see it for myself.

Anyone seen it? Or another ghost orchid?

I have never seen this orchid. Where is it located? I'd love to go see it and I'm not far from Naples.

That is the Corkscrew Swamp super ghost. Located at the Audubon society property. I was lucky to see it 3 days after it was found. I've also located hundreds of plants through out the everglades. and have posted several photos on this board.

Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is the name of the park. You'll have to check with the website as to when it blooms and when you can see it. They say you can only see it with binoculars, unless things have changed.

No things have not changed. their is a boardwalk that you MUST stay on. When it is in bloom, the park usually has spotting scopes to see it with. If you want to see one up close you will have to get wet. LOL

More or less. Take the first road off 29 that goes into the strand and head to the sweeping left turn. Take the old tracks SW and look for pond apple trees on the left(south) of the tracks. Been a many a year but they are there. About 18 inches to 3 feet above the water line. They were a sight back then. March, I believe.

Default Blair Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

July 10, 2007, I spent my birthday in awe of the "Super Ghost" at Corkscrew Swamp that inspired my novel, Ghost Orchid, praised by NPR Reviews for the beauty of the Everglades that shines through on every page, the ghost orchid the heart and soul of the story. The fiction story is drawn from my personal obsession with the orchid that I watched every day for three months straight during its blooming season May to September, three years in a row. Today, I am available to organizations for the popular talk about the ghost orchid, "Sex, Myths & Magic - the Ghost Orchid." See DKChristi.com | Adventure & Romance Books | Consultant and Author D.K. Christi The boardwalk is wonderful even if the ghost is not blooming; the swamp is serene and awe-inspiring. You can get a sense of the ghost by reading the novel, Ghost Orchid. It is at the Corkscrew gift shop, Pat's Hallmark in Bonita Springs, and Eastbrook Orchids in Bonita Springs and the Visitor and Information Center downtown Naples. Also online at Amazon.com and all booksellers. Enjoy the magic of "my birthday present" - the best present of all!
