Very cool, Dave! I tied about 10 seedlings of this species to various trees around my in-laws' property in Valrico last May. I'm back visiting this week and it looks like 3-4 have survived and are thriving. One has a withering bloom that still smells good and looks like a pod may be forming. 33596 is probably a bit far north for the current range but I put them all in south-facing or otherwise sheltered areas to help them weather frosts. Thanks for showing us a true wild example, I really love this species!

Nat, Were I find these, the ground is fairly wet. do they get enough humidity in Hillsborough county?

Not sure, Dave. The surviving plants look plump and happy and I don't think they get supplemental water unless I'm in town. I've got one of these growing mounted in my home in NC and it tolerates dry winters well. Very young plants may be more sensitive, though, so even if these set pods it's possible the seeds won't ever germinate or grow.

I seen hundreds of plants with many pods on each plant. They are self pollinating so there is a good chance they will be viable. |

I'm interested.. Is there an access point, ie; parking.
btw, I am of the opinion, that they should not allow rv's and hunting in that area. Especially the hunting, as that competes with panthers for their food. The rv's are just ridiculous and shouldn't be allowed in such a pristine area.
Maybe I should have said, the Especially, ESPECIALLY, the RV's

Nice shots and thanks for sharing Dave! I love these beauties as well. I think the Fakahatchee fared well in light of the mild winter we had, hence all the seed pods. I'm hoping the Maxillaria crassifolia that got burnt the couple winters before last will be showing some signs of recovery, and maybe even a bloom later this year!
We need to go out together again one of these days. When are you planning your next trip?
