Epidendrum strobiliferum
Default Epidendrum strobiliferum

I went out to Fakahatchee on Sunday with some friends to do some looking
around at a "new area". We found 6 new ghost orchids, But the highlight of the day was this Epidendrum strobiliferum, or " Cone Bearing Epidendrum. "

It's an incredibly small orchid as an individual, but the colony itself was really large and healthy. We counted 13 seed pods growing on the main cluster, and an additional 7 pods on two neighboring groups of growth.

A really gorgeous little orchid....and one of the more endangered in the swamp.
