Default 2011 Jarhead Fire at Big Cypress

I don't have the necessary programs to oipen some of the files in this link, such as the Google map of the fire area, but it is very informative. Approx 38,000 acres have already been burned, and it is nearly contained, at 85%.

Don't know which areas were affected, and hopefully not the areas rich with orchids, especially our beloved ghost orchid. It is though, just a natural course of nature that has been going on for eons. To think how much of the priceless forrests were clear-cut for timber, and only a mere fraction remains of what once was.

Just praying it isn't as bad as I fear.

Yes the smell of a burning wood fire each morning this week has been great, NOT!

There has been some private camps that have burned down and a panther den. They are saying the female adult survived but don't know if the young made it. Here's a map of the area.The fire's are near the oasis ranger station and go north.
