Default Back from Ecuador- photos

Hey folks,

Just got back last week- here's where I've been...

A few flowers (the place is pleurothallid central, amongst other things)...

...And there are a lot more photos where that came from. All were taken at Bosque Protector Los Cedros (reservaloscedros.org) in northwestern Ecuador, and thanks to Daniel and Maria, who've permitted me to put up some of their photos in addition to mine. If anyone wants more info on the reserve, check the website or let me know.

Also, I have hours and hours of field recordings- mostly just longer general recordings from different areas of the forest, but some animal-specific ones as well. If anyone's interested in these, please PM and I can send some along.

Aaron

Absolutely incredible! Thank you for sharing. I've heard Peru and Ecuador each have about 5,000 species - are you able to confirm?

That explains why I find it so hard to grow stuff from forests like that. Thanks for the great photos.

I can't personally confirm (I was only in one small part of northwest Ecuador), though it wouldn't surprise me. The reserve that I was at had hundreds, though unfortunately I just missed many of the larger ones that bloom with the return of the rains.

Definitely great to see them in situ- really inspiring.

Indeed- I'm going to start working on a vivarium now to house many of the smaller species I saw, but getting the climate right is going to be a challenge.

I was really surprised to see how many were able to pull through a two-week dry spell we had at one point- the Scaphosepalums, for example, even seemed to enjoy it.
