Im glad someone braves the pestilence of malarial swamps, bot flys, an occasional jaguarandi encounter,blisters on their feet and 14 different unknown mutant viruses for me.. Ill stay home and look at your pictures

Nice!
I really enjoyed seeing what a real South American jungle looks like up close! The kinds of plants in the forest are absolutely stunning!
I love the Pleurothallids. That Lepanthes calodictyon is superb!
What species of Masevallia was the purple/maroon striped one? It looked like it was Masd fasciata, but it wasn't.

It's Masdevallia ximenae, if we're looking at the same one. I'd love to find one of these somewhere, but it doesn't seem to be too popular in cultivation for some strange reason.

Ha ha... it's not as bad as all that, really. The altitude's too high for malaria, and the bot flies tend to stay a bit lower, too, I believe. I'd have considered myself lucky to see a large cat, though they are around- blisters and viruses I did encounter, but no worse than I've come upon here at home. I'd say that without a doubt the bugs are definitely worse up here in the Canadian summer than they are at their worst down there. Quite comfortable, really, if you don't mind the rain...

Yup we're talking about the same plant.
Yeah, I don't get it either.
Out of all the species within this section of Masdevallia, this is the one that people can easily cultivate.
I'll see if I can locate one, and I'll let you know if I find one.
Although if you're looking for Masd. fasciata, I know how to get a hold of some.

Comfortable- I'd say between 16-25 celcius. Constant high humidity, and plenty of rain, mostly in the afternoon.
