Kasper, how awesome that you have that plant! Back in the 70's (when I was young) we did the same thing. We rescued the orchids from down south on US1 and around where they were building the turnpike extension. We transplanted them into the Grove and Miami Springs and all kinds of crazy places. There are probably lots of places you could put your orchids (without getting in trouble). But you better get advice from the experts on that.

Well yeah that is sort of why I thru that out there hoping maybe someone had an idea if I could get in trouble. But I would definetly like to give back something that was going to be taken away forever if he didn't save them when he did.

I just thought maybe it would be cool for us to go out on a little field trip and leave something out there that we know we put there and gave back you know what I mean.

Sounds admirable but the strand is a state preserve and you are not allowed to remove or introduce anything without permission. And from what I hear that's no easy task. And you probably have to be the Head Botanist at a major College to get permission. The E. tempensis is not considered endangered and the state is covered with them.

How does everyone feel about next Saturday morning (Apr 24)? The long range forecast is for rain this weekend, then Tues-Fri is "Partly sunny with a 20 percent chance of showers. Highs in the mid 80s." So hopefully next Saturday will be the same. So just sign in here or send me a pm if you want to go. After we confirm the date with everyone, we can arrange where to meet, carpools, etc. I am looking forward to this!

I'm in along with two others....

My buddy Lenny from New Jersey who is parrot head and loves things all tropical. He says he was born with Florida in his blood, even though he's a transplant of 10 yrs from NJ.

And a friend I've known about 30 years and is a fantastic photographer, mostly landscapes and nature. Check out his website... Gil T Photography - Nature and Scenic landscapes, National parks, Miami skylines, birds, butterflies

Kasper, I've looked into this and have come to the conclusion the state has it's proverbial head up it's arse when it comes to this. They basically say you need to be a commercial plant grower and dedicate so much of your space into this endeavor.

The good news is, you can plant them on private property, and even some county/city parks. I'm in the works of transplanting some Enc Tamps in three local parks, and a few private properties. It's just a matter of when my seeds-to-plants comes back from Troy Meyers. Mine is Encyclia Tampensis "Hollywood-Sterling" on his site.

Yeah I am with you on that Ants but the rules are rules aren't they. Anyway I can think of a public park very close to me that has a natural wooded area, sure I can throw some in there and actually come back and see them from time to time.

Ok as for the trip I think my old man would like to go as well. Something he said he always wanted to do but never got around to doing because he never had anyone to do it with. So I'll keep you posted.
