Great pictures. And good to see how this species grows in nature. I especially like the photo with so many old flower spikes showing.

Wow, that is terrific and maybe the best thing about FL! Lucky you to see so many. Wish I could grow it. I tried twice, but the little plants knew they were not in Florida :-(

"They" are saying it's a 1,000 year event.
It's not, it's just the first time it's happened this year.
I got diverted from a FLL landing about 5 years ago because the runway was flooded. It is not a new thing.

And why shouldn't Florida flood? 80% of it is essentially just a swamp after all. Just because humans have paved it over and built on it does not change what's underneath. Water!

quick predictions....

lowered cars will be gone in 2 years, lifted truck sales will sku rocket- more fossil fuels yay

coastal area will be as the tide's mercy while millions will be wasted on more seawalls, diverters, canals and other bandaids.

kayak and stand up paddleboards will be more popular than ever as commuter tools

LOL, only 1/3 joking

I asked a friend whether the flooding affected her family. She said "What flooding?" I said Ft Lauderdale was flooding. She said she lived in West Palm Beach so it didn't affect her. The distance is about 40 miles / 64km.

Apparently it was a very localized flood event
in Ft La di da... main problem is the lack of discharge canals except for near the coast and 25 inches of water in 24 hrs is tough to drain away. I lived over 30 years just northwest of Ft la di da and worst we got was 9 inches of rain overnight. My area had extensive canal system and by noon there was no sign of any rain. other older communities (Hollywood) have chronic problems with even moderate flooding as they were developed with out canals...

Yes, Love seeing plants happy & healthy in nature! Does my heart good that there are still small oasis's of 'old Florida'. Still remember some hikes down loop road back in the day..
