Buds before a vacation!
Default Buds before a vacation!

Seems like my Greenhouse was empty of flowers a few weeks ago, but now that I'm leaving on vacation for the next few weeks there seems to be a ton of spikes and buds. Here are a few:

Paph. delenatii

No ID Phrag that a friend gave me "Volunteer 1998", it sprouted up in the moss of one of his other plants, which is pretty dang cool

Paph. Shin yi's pride x rothschildianum (the first flower in back is the same spike and has mostly opened)

Maybe I will get to see them bloom sometime.

All very cool, but the phrag sprouting from the moss takes the cake. Does your friend have any idea where it may have come from? Would love to hear the story.

The story goes:

My friend pollinated one or more of his plants (intentional hybrids with proper labeling) and then forgot to follow up with them. When he found them the spikes were dried up and seeds pods had opened, so he cut the spikes and moved on. Some time later he noticed orchid seedlings in the moss of his phrags. He grew some of them out and this is one of them.

I was able to get a glimps of the opening flower this morning (at 4:45 before heading to the airport), and it looks something like Phrag. Sendenii. I know he does have a nice Phrag longifolium, but... who knows what the actual cross is.

I hope you don't miss all of them. That's also a very cool story.

I was able to get a pic of the open flower. It looks like a Phrag. Sedenii, but who knows what it is (Beyond a NOID). It has a nice flower and been an easy grower, so I’m happy with the gift. The spike has branched, which is pretty cool, too.
