Showing off and a question
Default Showing off and a question

Good afternoon,

This is my epidendrum lake view angel which I love very much. I am showing off a little but , I am new to this and am wondering if the last picture is a spike or a new keiki?

Thank you all

If it was a spike, it would be terminal, since that alliance blooms out of the top of their growths from between the leaves. Judging from the height of that growth, I would say it's sprouting a keiki instead of a new directional growth.

Lovely orchid!

And that looks a keiki you have growing.
New "stalks" or canes are known as basal keiki.
Basically the same thing...more future plants/blooms.

In this case, it is a new growth emanating from a very short rhizome coming from another.

A basal keiki occurs most often when the apical meristem of a monopodial orchid is damaged.

Let me add that you do not want to divide individual growths of st podia plants, such as that. The more individuals in the colony, the more stable it is and will grow better. At a bare minimum, I recommend 3 old-, plus one new growth per division.

That's beautiful. It looks like it changes color as the blossoms age; is that correct?

You can show off any time you wish. We like that here. Nice plant.
