The tavern will not be appropriate for the kids, especially the 3 year old. I guess it could help her sleep on the trip. Just kidding! lol

In Wisconsin, unless things have changed, a bar serves only alcohol and kids aren't allowed. A tavern serves food also, and kids are welcome. I remember, at age 7, sitting at the bar in a tavern in northern Wisconsin eating a hamburger while grandpa enjoyed a beer. I wanted the Hamm's sign on the wall with the op-art illusion of the river rapids flowing. Most taverns looked exactly like bars to me. It might be similar in Illinois.
