Barbosella orbicularis Male
Default Barbosella orbicularis

Barbosella orbicularis - creeping miniature from Central and South America, hot to warm growing species. Grown outside year round, in shade, watered every day, regular fertilizing. Just last week I started to wonder if I did not make mistake moving this from inside (intermediate) to outside (warm to hot) last fall, but I found these two open blooms today :-)

I keep meaning to get some kind of Barbosella species then inevitably there is something else I decide I need more.

Very cool! I love Barbosella but I've not seen this one. Really like the flower. I have a Barbosella dussenii that has been in spikes for weeks, the spikes get longer but no blooms yet. I have cogniauxiana as well. I love the growth habit of these plants. Looks like you made this one happy!

Many thanks everyone. Patty, it was a gift from a friend, a piece of his plant, he has never made it bloom, but just some month after he sent me a piece, it did bloom, inside the apartment just hanging on the vase rim. Than I decided to move it outside last fall, and have not seen any blooms, so I started to doubt my decision some week ago, not seeing any blooms at all, and today when watering these two just stare at me!

:-) Shannon, I do not even own magnifying glass, and I have to get one, I was trying to pollinate this one yesterday and it was hard without the glass -) But I will be honest, I totally did miss the blooms till fully opened :-)

I'll bet. If I were in a hurry I would defiantly miss them. I do like to poke mine at least every other day while I'm watering. I keep a small flashlight and my close up glasses close at reach.

Seems like I am always helping one of my Masde leaves to get out and just the other day my new equestris had a strange thing coming out of it. I was not sure if it was a root or a spike. It didn't look like either to me so out came the granny glass and the flash light and low and behold the spike was growing back into the stalk of the plant. I had to do surgery.
