Default Recent blooms (May 2022 Edition)

Some recent blooms over from cloudy san diego.

Cattleya warneri x Laelia alaorii
Here's a small cattleya thats already bloomed earlier this year. wonderful fragrance.

Dendrobium Gatton Sunray
Large dendrobium - I grow it outdoors year round, full sun. Blooms in early June each year.

Cattleya schroederae
First time blooming on this one. Came out really wonky. Fragrance is delightful... something like fancy black tea... darjeeling???

Laelia Zip
These are just starting to open up. Such an intense red!

Dendrobium victoria-reginae
These are my favorite. Ever since I moved to San Deigo, the blooms have been more purple. I read somewhere that bluer hues are correlated with cooler temps. too hot!

and a non orchid plant!

Yes, one in the same. Do you have one too?

I do but it hasn't flowered yet. In the description Fred was hoping for whites but a mini plant with big pink flowers is also very desirable in my opinion.

Jeff, those are gorgeous!

Zip is one of my most favorites - just picked up 2 SVO plants this spring. One is throwing a sheath from a huge new growth; is your blooming from a green or dry sheath? I want to know if I'm gonna have to wait or not.

Both, actually! Mine makes a few growths a year and blooms on all the sheaths in the summer.

My other L. Zip finally opened. Smaller and less floriferous than the other one but it's a nicer, deeper red.

Laelia Zip (Laelia tenebrosa 'Paul' x Laelia milleri 'Dr. Koopowitz Red' HCC/AOS)

Thanks for showing sheath pics!

Ooo, that second one is a stunner. Maybe flower count will be higher in future bloomings! I bought two Zip siblings from SVO's 2022 list, and they grow very differently, so I'm looking forward to seeing the differences in the flowers soon. I tend to love Rupicolous hybrids - clusters, red/rich coloration, taller spikes - I never grow tired of them.

BTW, I was just down in the south and Better-Gro bag babies are back! I picked up a Golden Sunburst and a few others to fly back with me to the mountains after you posted yours blooming.
