Folding away from the ovary is a good sign. Change in colour is also an indicator, and if you look at the column it should be swollen.

Here's a Phal violacea 3 days after pollination.

You are totally right! In some species petals and sepals change and turn green to photosynthesize.

It's not the case with plants in the Aphyllae section, they just dry.
