My only Zigo is blooming Male
Default My only Zigo is blooming

This is my Zigo...have it for several years and I keep it 99% of the time outdoors. It stands temps as high as 40ºC in summer but when it gets below 10ºC in winter I put it indoors (mostly at night).

The first time it bloomed its fragrance spreaded to the entire house but this year, although fragrant, it's not noticeable unless you actively smell it. I believe it's due to lower temps happening now around here.

Some photos...

Beauty! Their fragrance is awesome. I noticed if I smell the flowers directly in the day it’s not very pleasing but my tent smells wonderful so wondered if they produce the nice fragrance at night.

What hybrid is that? I have one oddball that looks very similar. It's blooming now and smells like lilacs. The name is so long and weird I'd have to take a picture of the tag! Lol

Yes, it's fragrant.
It's a Noid, Carol. It was a single rootless pbulb (the big yellow one in the photos) when my mother offered it to me. It came from Madeira Island.

If you are only going to have one, that's a dandy! Beautiful lip.

This plant is one of the first in my collection. I always try to have a collection the more eclectic as possible. I some Cymbs, some Phals, one Zigo, one Stan, one Catt (in the old nomenclature), several Laelias, one Phap, one Cochleanthes, one Coelogyne, few Oncidiums, two Pleiones, one Ludisia, one Bletilla,...I'm sure some are still missing.......as you can see the number one is recurrent.

Also, Zigos are more or less similar between species and hybrids with a few differences.
