Angraecum Lemford White Beauty - Orchid Board

Hello all,

I have a new orchid to add to my list of favorite flowers.

This is Lemforde White Beauty. It has an interesting story. I got it in December and it was lost in the mail for almost two weeks before I received it. When it finally arrived, it was thankfully perfectly fine.

The seller was not wrong when they called it a summer bloomer. It’s one of those plants I did not realize was in spike until it was almost blooming as it was facing the other way for months.

It is a cross of the magdalenae and the sesquipedale though is takes mostly after the latter.

It is inside the house now and on a nightstand next to my bed. I like being able to barely see (and smell) the white, strangely fragrant (sesquipedale like) flower when the lights are off when I’m in bed. It shares that table with a Brassavola and the Grandalena. I hope it lasts a long time.

There is much more to come in terms of bloom posts as I have many more blooming plants to photograph.

The flower is very nice! Congratulations! I cannot wait to see what you think of the magdalenae when it blooms.

I can’t barely wait myself. Mine I’m pretty sure is blooming size but it doesn’t look like it has ever bloomed previously. There is no evidence of a spike developing nor a prior spike.

The Magdalenae is one of my most anticipated plants along with Bc. Florida Stars “Ion Drive” and a few others that I’ve never seem in bloom. I think I’ve gotten a preview of it though with the two primary crosses I've bloomed.

To end off my Angraecum blitz, I have two more Angraecums up my sleeve that are in spike which are Aeranthes grandiflora and Angraecum longiscott.

So far it was a very eventful season with Angraecums. Many of them bloomed or almost bloomed beginning in February. My sesquipedale, Crestwood, and leonis all aborted their spikes but I was able to get flowers from the eburneum, didieri (which I’ve named library paste because it is overwhelming fragrant of phenol), Joyce Stewart, Lemforde White Beauty, Bosseri (briefly), Grandalena, and Aerangis fastuosa.

As of now, my Magdalenae, equitans, viguieri, Lai’s star, biloba, cyrtorchis trio, dollii, infundibulare, elephantinum, birrimense, aeranthes setipes, aeranthes caudata, eichlerianum, and podangis are doing nothing but that’s okay as I’ve only had the Magdalenae and dollii for any length of time.
