Masd. princeps - Orchid Board

I'm pleased as can be with this one. This is it's first time blooming and I couldn't be happier with the color and the markings. I'm not that well versed in Masdie form so will let someone who knows more about them than me weigh in on that. This is one I got from Ivan Komoda in Maui.

Thanks RJ! It's a large flower for the size of the plant. From tip to tails it's at least 5 inches. I was told this one can be difficult to bloom, so I'm really happy I got it to flower at all!

OMG you have no idea how exited I get every time some one posts their M. princeps in bloom. It's as if it were my M. princeps surprising me with a bloom. I love it!!! Just gorgeous!

I have one that I have been trying to get to bloom for 3 1/2 years. Its growing nicely, but not blooms.

I'm probably growing it all wrong. It's getting Catt light and the temps are intermediate to warm in summer. I keep all my Masdies moist. I think if I'm going to continue to grow it this bright I need to feed it more regularly. If you look a the second pic you can see the leaves are yellowing. Since I've started feeding it more the new growths are nice and green. I don't have a fan on them either. From everything I've read about them I shouldn't be able to grow Masdies at all.

All my masdies have been getting Catt light this winter, and they have not complained. Opposite rather, they have rewarded me with constant blooms. There is always something in bud or bloom. I think bright light is good so long as it is not given to them suddenly.

I agree about the light, I think my Masdies get higher than usual light. They are in my greenhouse which because light can get in on all sides and roof (two oposite walls are shaded but still get light) I think is quite bright even when the sun is not on it (shade cloth in the summer).

My Masdies grow more compact for me than they were when I got them, this is what makes me think they are in higher light as I've heard light can affect Masdies in this way. However they grow lots and lots and lots of them and seem really healthy and happy and one of them at least just keeps flowering with 4 spikes just now (I've not had the other two long so they still have time, all three are growing well though).
