I've seen pictures of the flowers before but never the plant... now I see why... there is not really any plant there at all when it flowers, just this shrivlled conker thing
It just had a bud when I bought it which had grown considerably by the time I took the first pic. Within only a couple of days it had fully opened in to this great flower.
The last picture is of Pleione maculata which I bought at the same time. This one aparently grows leaves first and then flowers in the autum.
Thanks everyone. I really love this little guy. I have him sitting on the table beside me and he tends to move arround to wherever I'm sitting so I can enjoy the flower
Looking back at these pictures I realise that the stem the flower is on has grown loads in the few days since they were taken and a leaf is forming about half way up it.
I thought I should show the whole plant (what there is of it) because others like me may have only ever seen the flower and not realised what it's like.
