Polystachya foliosa - Orchid Board

I got a compot of this from Troy Meyers earlier this year. I gave some to friends and planted 4 together for myself. It now has 4 spikes, three of them are about 7" tall and the other one is about 3" tall...and that one is the one to bloom first!

Ya just never know

Yes, one never knows!!!
I always found this an interiesting genus, Susanne. We have two or three species native to Brazil, all with tiny creamy flowers, but Africa have some beautiful ones!

In South Africa I saw huge colonies of Polystachya ottoniana, some completely covering the lower trunks of trees in the Eastern Cape province, especially alongside streams. Might have to try to find that one and see if I can grow it here in the tundra...

Interesting variety don't know of that one. The leaves seem to be similar to the oncidium spp.
