Default Paphiopedilum venustum

First flowering seedling, it's a selfing of a really good parent. I am really really disappointed with the size. Does anyone know why this one would be about 1/3 the size of other flowers I see on the show bench. Will the flowers get bigger in future? What does it need?

Also the staminode is off kilter but I'm not worried about that so much as it will correct itself hopefully. But the tiny flower size is a worry. The plant is in a two inch pot and I also think the colour is good.

I think the colors are wonderful. The crisp green and white of the dorsal really contrast nicely with the rest of the flower. The leaves are very healthy looking also, nice tessellations !
I would think the size of the bloom will get bigger when the plant matures. Blooming in a 2" pot with just one growth is kind of premature, isn't it?

Yes it may be premature so I've discovered since posting the photo. I have had hybrids flower big on the first growth of different Paphs but my expectations were a bit high for a first flowering venustum. I am still learning I guess.....

Well... It wouldn't be any fun if we weren't still learning
