Default My Stanhopea tigrina opened today!

I picked this up last week from Santa Barbara Orchid Estate and I woke up this morning to these incredible flowers.

I can't claim credit for getting it to bloom but I'm still just as excited!

I think it smells like chocolate. It smells so good I don't want to leave for work! It has 7 pseudobulbs, three of which are large.

Very nice! Almost looks like it's from another world. Maybe Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.

That is just awesome! I would repot it properly into that basket as soon as the flower fade though. You will lose more spikes as they get trapped in the pot than see them come through.

A quick question about potting for all the experienced Stanhopea growers, I was told to use moss along the outside of the basket and bark on the inside. Is this the best way?

I use spagnum moss for the whole thing. With that basket, I would line it with either coir (coconut 'fur') or a few sheets of newspaper with holes poked in it to allow water drainage, then add spag.
