That's neat! I agree, if it ain't broke - the algae in my aquariums is almost always a GOOD thing, and I rather like the look of it, so I leave it (unless it gets out of hand). It just never occured to me that that would happen in a planter (and of course, it makes perfect sense, with all the light and water and humidity) - it just surprised me, hehe.

Thank you Susanne. I really like the Haraella, something very 'jungle' about it. That might be something that would grow in my cool kitchen in the winter. As to the scent, it might become more apparent after you water it and move it to a warmer location. I noticed similar behaviour in my Zygo. and a few other pseudobulb species in my collection.
P.S. Thanks for the link too, very helpful

Barbara,
This is the third blooming for this plant and it hasn't smelled yet. I've tried sniffing it at different times but
still nothing. As for warmth, this little cool spell I'm in right now is very temporary, the plant is usually in an extremely warm place...out on the lanai in Florida
I've read of a few other people who are experiencing the same thing so I guess it's just an oddity...and that's okay...it's so cute anyway
I'm hoping someday, it just decides to surprise me

COme to think of it, whenever I would smell mine was usually in the morning right after it had been misted automatically by one of Marty's misting machines. Maybe it needs that extra humidity/warmth/wetness????
Then again, there were a few times I smelled it when it was dry.
