Doc - I am not in NYC .. I am in the suburbs of Long Island .. So the ride isn't that far for me to Planting Fields .. around a half hour or so .. and my brother doesn't live far from there also ..

You can get to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens by subway - Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Directions to Brooklyn Botanic Garden
and NY Botanical Gardens in the Bronx by train or subway - The New York Botanical Garden: Directions

I have been to the NY Botanical Garden and it's worth spending a relaxing day there ..

I did my summer field study at BBG back in the early 1960s (for Landscape Architecture.) Really nice place but it reminds me of long nights and lots of studying

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Beautiful shots! I'll have to hint to my husband for a day trip! We're about 3 hrs. north of you.

If you do come to Long Island .. look up the The John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden in Mill Neck, NY which is only a few miles from Planting Fields
- Untitled Document
- The Garden Conservancy
It's a nice but hilly walk through 4 acres of Japanese gardens including a Tea House and Koi Pond ..
Days and hours are limited so plan ahead!
It's very relaxing and not commerical (Few people and fewer resources (no food or restrooms there) !
