Stanhopea Guttulata - Orchid Board

This morning i woke up to this flower!! I can't get over it, it so intricate and beautifull. Just amazing, sorry

This morning it was pale cream but as the day progressed it got darker and the 2 petals folded over on the back of the flower. The smell is kind of vague still its not really pleasant so far..
I think i might also be getting better at

It is a very intersting bloom!

I've not seen many stanhopea photos...and I think yours' are great. They look like alien something or others...

Awesome!! Very nice looking flower. Can you take pics of the whole plant as well? I can never get enough tips on different growing methods for Stans. Thanks!

Congrats, Chumy,

It's a wonderful Stan, but it's not Stan guttulata; it's in fact Stan insignis (both are from Southeastern Brazil).
Almost all "guttulatas" sold in the world are not in fact guttulatas...Stan guttulata is almost extinct in the nature, so it is an amazing rarity!

That was my first reaction. I didnt say anything because I was too busy to do a quick search to see if I was right. I also did not know that guttulata was so hard to find, thanks for the info Fred!

Thanks Frederico its nice to have pros like you around. I bought it with a baby spike so this is the first flower i saw. Do they not grow these from seed? I'll post pics of the whole plant later for Steve.

Could be just an honest mistake. Sometimes plants come in tagged wrong, and are sold fast. They may have not known better.

Either way, WOW. Stans are so cool and this one seems to have some lobe action going on. I'm not really familiar with the Stan flower terminology (obviously), but most that I've seen don't have that expanded looking feature just above the horns.

Don't worry! Your Stan insignis is very beautiful! This color form (pale yellow/'straw' color background) is uncommon (dark yellow/orange background color is the usual in insignis) and the plant looks very happy!

I am very happy with the Stan no matter what the name. And I m sure it was an honest mistake here is a pic of the whole plant

. The 3 leafed one the one in the back ground is a Stan Candida and i also have a baby tigrina. Im sure i'll be getting more stans after actually seeing "a" flower.
