They only had a handful to start, since the gardener kept all the phrags and most of the paphs. They had mostly large noid phals (mostly solid white or violet), some oncidium (a few with tags, most without), some vanda (brown) and a few dendrobium (without flowers, but with tags). If I had arrived earlier, there may have been a better selection, and as I stood deliberating, the non-Phal choices got noticeably smaller. Someone commented that they thought they'd all be gone by tomorrow. I will probably not go again next year, but I did buy a couple plants.

I plan to go to the show on Saturday.
I did not go to Longwood today, but thank you for the info! What's kind of ironic is that I've been there over the summer (non-orchid fest time) and they had a lot of the same type of orchids for sale. I bought a large white noid phal for $19 but they also had a good variety that were not in flower but were labeled. I remember some dens and a masdevallia that I regret not buying. I guess the moral of the story is that they always have orchids for sale.

One of my alternative grad classes was at longwood (nature and writing or something) and one day we got a private tour from the orchid grower. She is a one woman show. It was incredible. There are at least 2 full orchid greenhouses and a large potting room if I remember correctly.

I'll be at the SEPOS show Saturday. Hope there is good stuff left, though I don't really NEED anything

See you all there!

With all due respect, how can you be sure you don't need anything if you don't know what's available?

Plus, not needing anything has never stopped me from spending tons of money.

I have not been to Longwood since they & SEPOS parted ways, but if it is anything like the NYC Botanical Garden, they only bring in regular box store orchids for sale.

I know who the vendors are at the SEPOS show, and that's where you find the hobby stuff - all with labels.

Unfortunately I can't go till Sunday afternoon, so most vendors will be close to sold out (fortunately I pre-ordered from some vendors, so I will have stuff waiting for me).

Thank you!

I wound up able to go to the SEPOS show today instead of tomorrow. I could have gotten in big trouble (maybe I still did), but I limited myself to two orchids, a phrag and a Paph. That still makes 4 orchids in 3 days.

Most people can easily hide from spouses 4 orchids in 3 days.

This would be a good thread - tricks people have used to hide plants.
