There must be demands for NoIDs, even at shows. Otherwise they wouldn't be there.

This show caters to a broader audience than those of us who post here. I've not been to another show of like size so don't know if they have NoIDs. The other smaller Bay Area shows (Orchids in the Park, San Jose Orchid Expo) cater more to the serious collectors but fewer vendors. I can see SJ's show morph into a more pedestrian collection of plants just because of the location (Winchester Mystery House).

NoIDs?? I haven't been to this particular show but I can't imagine NoIDs being at a big show. Heck, I can't remember seeing NoIDs at smaller show either.

I know, right? Last year I asked one of those vendors if they had any registered plants and you would not believe the "tude", and the load if BS explanation I got. I had to just walk away or say something rude.

NoIDs AND snooty about it?! I think I'll have to stop typing before I write something rude!

Its San Francisco, a city famous for acceptance. Even for NoIDs.

I grew up in the Bay Area, and you are correct about tolerance. I just expected more from POE. I didn't mind the NOIDs so much as I did the hefty price tag for them and the snotty attitude they were giving away.

I bought from Ten Shin & Paphiness instead.

I don't belong to the OS or the organizing partners so I don't know the guidelines for vendors. I suspect if NoID sellers pay a fee, they are given space. I don't think they can afford to turn away any vendors.

The Bay Area may be have prime orchid growing micro-climates but I suspect serious orchid interest is waning. This year's POE show was considerably smaller and less crowded although using the same venue.

I went on Sunday and it was as crowded as last year at the same time of day. There were over 150,000 orchids there according to the announcement. I was thinking the same thing about SF being tolerant...even of Noids. NoIDs are one of the ways to bring in new hobbyists in addition to helping to fund the event.

I'm very interested in getting to the other shows in addition to this one, it's the only one I've seen so far.

I am a bit frustrated that when I go to the people with booths jam- packed with phals and ask if they know of any phal varieties that are fragrant, they look at me like I'm absolutely batty. I've read about these things, surely they exist, but the people you'd think would be in a position to know act like they've never heard of such a thing in a million years.

I hate getting up early, but I am glad I went in the morning. By 1pm or so on Saturday it was getting crowded enough to be really annoying, can't hardly move. Especially a problem if you're trying to get close enough to things to smell them.

I had a lot of fun talking with the guys at SVO. When I described the size of my Fdk. After Dark, they seemed pretty surprised. It's absolutely massive compared to anything they had at the booth. It didn't bloom for me, but they said that might be because I kept watering it too late in the year-- by Thanksgiving the watering should stop entirely. Will have to remember that next year.

Sounds like the same people I talked to last year. I think they know very little about what they are selling. They probably buy a boatload of plants cheap and resell them at inflated prices. I'm also guessing that if they don't have what you are asking for then it must not exist!

I was surprised how expensive the noid phals were too. I planned to buy one for a friend who likes big orchid flowers and is new to growing. I bought from Andy's and Olompali to get two species for myself and skipped the noid.
