Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park is Long Island’s premier public arboretum and historic site located in Oyster Bay, New York. A former Gold Coast estate, the arboretum is comprised of 409 acres of greenhouses, rolling lawns, formal gardens, woodland paths, and outstanding plant collections. The original historic estate buildings remain including the 65 room Tudor Revival mansion, Coe Hall, which is open for tours spring through fall. The grounds, landscaped by the Olmsted Brothers of Brookline, Massachusetts, are spectacularly beautiful year round.

Bring plenty of water, a hat/cap, sunblock, lunch, wear sneakers; I wouldn't wear flip flops or sandals; a light sweater/hoodie since it’s still chilly late afternoons. You can bring portable chairs too if you get tired of roaming the grounds or you just decide to lounge.
For Manhattanites who don’t own a car; I take the LIRR at Penn Station to Oyster Bay Station stop then avail of the free use of the train expo (Historic Trolley) and it will get you to the arboretum and several interesting spots.
The Historic Trolley meets all trains and provides a continuous loop to Sagamore Hill National Historic site, Planting Fields Arboretum, Theodore Roosevelt Bird & Animal Sanctuary, Young’s Memorial Cemetery, the Western Waterfront, downtown and back to the LIRR Station.
YEEY! I am finally going to meet my Ecuagenera friends in person!

Oh, I didn't know about the free train ride and took a call cab to the park last fall.

It is a very nice green place! I really enjoyed their selection of dahlia.
