Fishmom, I have over 400 orchids

I got eight orchids at the POE: lepanthes caprimulgus, pleurothallis truncata, pleurothallis ornata(I can't spell the other name for this one), bulbophyllum monilliforme, chil. lunifera, epi. dark fire, phal. bellina x violacea, and a paph.

This year the show is Friday February 23 through Sunday February 25. The opening night gala is Thursday February 22.

The show is puny!! Tiny, small, insignificant. Not sure why they bother at that size. Got priced out of Fort Mason, now they charge $12 to see just a handful of vendors. And the vendors are paying more $$ for less space. I heard they may try someplace else next year.

I won't bother going back if it's going to be like that.

I loved the 2018 Pacific Orchid Exposition. I would think any orchid lover would greatly enjoy this show. The show had many hundreds of amazing orchids, amazing specimens. It was not a small show.

There were several dozen volunteers. How many clubs can pull that off? There was a well-staffed and easy-to-use holding area for purchases, at no additional charge.

There were some great displays in the show, including a large free-standing glass enclosure with dozens and dozens of beautifully-grown Dracula, Masdevallia and other pleurothallids in flower. There were over a dozen large Dendrobium speciosum in flower. There was a wall installation, perhaps 10 feet / 2.8 meters high and wide, of purple Phals packed densely. There was a display of Neofinetias before a Japanese screen.

The sale occupied a large room. There were VERY many more vendors than I expected after reading comments here on Orchid Board. Many vendors were international. All the vendors to whom I spoke were happy to spend as much time as necessary explaining how they grow orchids, their growing conditions, and to make recommendations regarding unfamiliar species. Only at a large show and sale does a hobbyist have access to this much knowledge. That is worth the admission price to me.

Adult admission was $12. San Francisco is a very expensive city. The following day I paid $36 to visit the California Academy of Sciences and Steinhart Aquarium. I had a much better time at the orchid show.

I highly recommend this show to anybody. It's a great reason to visit a great city.

I guess it depends on the point of comparison. The 2016 Fort Mason show was vast. I'm thinking 5 - 10x more exhibitors.

Of course, I just drive into town and pay a bridge toll, so it's a different deal for me.

400? Age 18? Are they miniatures? Do you have a greenhouse?

Most are seedlings, but I do have a lot of miniatures. No, I do not have a greenhouse, they ALL live in my shower(not a big shower either, just normal size). About 100 of the seedlings are phrag. kovachiis.

you're referring to in the display room? Where it was all large purple and white mericlones?

I have to say, visually that was impressive. Not too interesting botanically, but very beautiful.
