I hope any South Texas OB members, and their families are safe, dry, and out of danger. My dad used to live on a boat, a sloop (long story) at Port Aransas on Mustang Island right across from Rockport where Harvey made land. It is a beautiful area, filled with really nice people, and is an Orchid lover's heaven as far as weather. I pray for all the people on the barrier islands, Corpus Christi, Victoria, Houston and all the other wonderful cities on the cost.

After living in Texas for a few years prior to moving here, I too hope people are safe and out of harms way. I cannot imagine leaving your home and everything you have worked for behind, not knowing if you will be able to return to that home again. I loved Texas and the people, one of the friendliest states I've ever called home. A beautiful state, an orchid lovers haven definitely! I have friends there, I hope they are safe and well. Nature is both beautiful and cruel.

I was there for Ike. The devastation was incredible. Like you, I am praying. I am too far out of the ARC loop now to deploy.

My father sat out a few hurricanes inside his boat at a dock in Pt. Aransas. I thought he was crazy. There was nothing I could do. Wow!

Is "brave" really the right word?

Hurricanes are the main reason I never had any desire to live near a coast. Those poor people! And, with the oceans beginning to warm up (oceans act like a giant heat-sink), this might just be the beginning.

It seems that every time I turn on the TV, the news coming out of Texas gets worse and worse and worse... I feel for all those people.

My boyfriend very nearly ended up in that mess, he was supposed to arrive in Houston on Saturday for a weeklong meeting. Luckily the meeting organisers played it safe and cancelled the meeting on friday. The 1000€ tickets are a total loss, but but in perspective it's nothing compared to what the people in the impacted zones have lost to Harvey.

Keep talking to the airline. Often when flights are canceled due to something like this they will make accommodations. I was scheduled to fly into New York the day the hurricane hit. It took 6 months but the airline did refund my fare.
