Default Banco a Bangkok (pics heavy!)

The Emporium and its recently opened annex "Qu"-artier (not to be confused with Cartier - but I think that is subliminally the point!) across the pedestrian bridge are some of the poshest commercial places in Bangkok. I usually don't go to those places, but they are the kind of places that are rife with extravaganza at the slightest provocation, so when I happened to be in the neighborhood on this Queen(/Mother's Day - a 3 day weekend holiday this year), I figured I "put in a brief appearance" just to see what they're up to... and the result is this pictorial for your leisurely perusal.

I bypassed the decked out halls and opted instead for the walkabout passages where the in/exterior designers really earned their pay.

pic4.jpg

The Kiddie Corner (they forgot to re-surrect the letter E for "LOV_" on on Mother's Day? Hmmm...)

pic6.jpg

All the flora you see in this series are real, except for those in this pic: from the pastel floral blackground of the classical players trio to and the plastic vines draped around the bench.

pic5.jpg

A teashop surrounded with blooming phals, in the middle of the women fashion department, just because!

pic7.jpg

The movieplex wing (actually a whole stand-alone theater.)

pic8.jpg

The pedestrian bridge, dressed up for the occasion.

pic9.jpg

The main event: the atrium on Quartier ground floor as a setting to take your mom to for a family portrait and a bouquet of maternally-themed flowers for her to take home. The lady featured in the hanging medallion is the mother of the nation, ie the Queen (recently widowed. The populace are still mourning the late king who passed away last year, thus black remains the dominant color in everyday wear as you can see and a conscious effort shown in "toning down" one's own wardrobe.) Obviously the crowd who came in today (including your truly) are definitely not the regular shoppers for this sort of stores.

pic10.jpg

Far from the maddening crowd, in a quiet little open green space next door, just to prove that often the best things in life are free (and mostly unsearched for...)

Hope this mini-travelogue add to my fellow stateside orchid lovers' enjoyment of your Sunday morning coffee/tea. Cheers,

Hi Dolly, you're very welcome. Since no orchids so far have ever bloomed for me to show off here , this is my kind of contribution to the board, thinking that folks back in the states would like to see something different now and then.
