It is fascinating to me to read of these "other" plants and how you grow them.
On the orchid front, when I was watering this morning I found that 12 of my 15 mini Phals are starting spikes, so I should have blooms for Thanksgiving and Christmas from them. I was so excited to see so many spiking.
My friends and I visited Piping Rock orchids this afternoon. I bought 3 new Paphs and my friends also got 3 plants, but some were Oncids. Had a great time. Glen has such a great personality, he is wonderful to spend an afternoon with. He is very helpful with our choice of plants.
Brought all the "outside" plants inside. It was so cold and windy after the heavy rains yesterday. Had to do a lot of rearranging to get them all in. 6 Den. nobiles and 3 Cymbidiums. One of the Cyms has 2 bloom spikes with buds. I just hope they don't blast from the change in environment. No buds yet on the Nobiles, they should come soon.
All in all, a real orchid Sunday .[COLOR="Silver"]

Today was busy for me. I attended my orchid society's meeting, where we watched a pre-recorded webinar made for the C.O.C. for use by societies that might not be able to afford to bring in a speaker all the time. Then I went and visited with one of the members back at their place to see their grow-op, and it is pretty damn impressive! (they were gracious enough to part with two 'chids they had extra of) Then I went home and mounted plants that needed to be with cork slabs I had picked up from my parents' place that I left there ages ago. In two months my collection has shot up from four plants and a flask to 24 plus approx. 15 seedlings.

I wish our OS met on a weekend! Sounds like your collection is really growing fast TheBlazingAugust. Soon you will have more plants than you had before!

Trying to fit all the plants inside is always a bit nerve-wracking. I love growing stuff and cannot seem to limit what I NEED to have in my collection. If only I collected thimbles or something else small that did not require windows. But, unfortunately, it had to be plants.

I did check on whether the figs I have NEED to go into dormancy and they do not. As someone explained to me, figs are grown all over the world even in warm climates with longer hours in the winter. They are grown in Hawaii. In some very hot parts of the world, they go dormant during the hottest weather and stay leafed during the 'cooler' temperatures.

I have done a lot of purging myself to make room for orchids and not be crowded (clutter upsets me ). But, we had room in the garden for figs which honey always wanted, so we went for it. I have no idea of the technical aspects of it all. I have trouble remembering what I had for lunch. However, you are growing what makes you happy and that's what counts! I would like to see a picture of your grow room if you have one.

Does anyone else feel guilty about taking the pets to the vet? My dogs fear it so much and make me feel so cruel. They sometimes won't have anything to do with me for a few days. One of my dogs needs to have her teeth cleaned so I have convinced spouse to drop her off so I am not the bad person. I plan to be the hero that picks her up and takes her home.

Well it started out nice enough with temperatures much higher than normal, sun shining brightly.

After wrestling the Sunday crosswords I decided I'd get ahead with the yard leaf cleanup.
About an hour and a half later I noticed it becoming darker and a little cooler as I moved along with my riding mower with rear leaf bagger. I figured that it was just a passing cloud when all of a sudden the sky opened up with ice cold rain and lots of thunder and lightning to follow.

So much for yard clean-up until next weekend.
At least I get to watch the World series tonight.

Happy Orchid Sunday!!

Now I'll preface this by saying I usually don't drink or party, but I've been spending today recovering from near alcohol poisoning. . . I had a friends birthday party last night, and since I'm cheap, I decided to drink my own vodka that was gifted to me. Since I don't know my limits, I ended up chugging about 300 mL of vodka mixed with orange juice in 50 minutes before we headed out to the club. As you could imagine, I don't remember much of last night. Good thing is that besides some liver damage, I had good friends that gave me water and put me to bed. Everyone got home safe! But yeah, I don't think I'll be drinking again anytime soon. Isn't being stupid and learning the hard way fun?
