Angry Selling cmv infected orchid plants on Ebay

I am appalled and had to write to forum members to maybe tell me that I am old fashioned and maybe should get over myself.

I was just looking at all of the new orchid listings on Ebay (sorry if anyone hates the bay) and Waldor Orchids is blatantly selling CMV infected orchids plants!!!!! And as a consolation for buying a diseased plant for them they are selling at a lower price. HUH???

I have been growing orchids for nearly 40 years now and I have even worked for a few notable growers in my time. Virused plants were either burned or discarded period.

So have things really changed that much to where selling viral infected orchids is ok with orchid growers now?

Thank you for letting me vent. Unfortunately the bay does not have a way to report sellers selling diseased plants.

I saw another post regarding this.

Just out of curiosity, can you post or PM me the link? I am NOT interested in buying, but I am curious how they "spin" this in the Ebay listing.

PM sent. To me that would make me not buy an orchid from them. I don't understand why you would not destroy it.

I'd like to check it out too but don't trust myself to browse through listings.. it never ends well for the old bank account and I'm trying REALLY hard to learn how to better care for what I already have without adding any more :-/

I saw the listing. They state that there are no clean plants of that hybrid.

Since they are being honest about the status of the plant, just move on.

There must be more than one. The one I saw is C. Alice duPont `Waldor' HCC/AOS.

Your not absolutely not old fashioned, i have been in great arguement with three orchidgrowers on this side of the pond about the same. They all sold my virused orchids, and acted like it is totally normal. (And they didn't mention this in their discription) One of them even stated that all hybrid orchids are virused. So what was the dus about. Like i'm the crazy one. I'm still appalled and stunned. Times have changed and not for the better.

The exact wording is "no clean divisions".

(I don't even like floofy Catts).
