Default Monthly Status Reports - January 08

Thought I'd keep this great idea of Shakkai's going. Here's what's happening at my house.

In Bloom:

Phal. equestris - Shed a bottom leaf also growing a new leaf, roots, and a keiki.
B. nodosa – also growing lots of new roots
L. Santa Barbara Sunset ‘Showtime’ HCC/AOS –Two blooms, have not fully opened yet. Plant also has 3 new growths, and lots of new roots.
Aerangis luteo-alba rhodostica - in full bloom, 10 flowers total possibly starting on a pair of new roots

In Spike:

P. bellina – just finished growing a new leaf, has 1 existing spike not in bloom, and a baby spikelet that hasn’t grown since I got it in July.
Den. Paskel Kuning ‘Hawaii’ – spike has stalled out, not sure if it will continue to develop or not.
Den. Frosty Dawn – buds have emerged on 3 of the 4 canes. Youngest cane is beginning to develop buds
Epi. Pak Girl x Pacific Embers - Buds are emerging from sheath
P. NOID White Magenta Lip – Shed a bottom leaf & growing a single new spike. First new spike for me
P. NOID Birthday White – growing double spikes! Also first new spike for me.
Dtps. Malibu Merlot – growing a single new spike. Also first new spike for me.

Actively Growing:

Lc. Hwa Yuan Beauty ‘Spice Girl’ – sending out another new lead, as well as lots of new roots
C. Summer Spot ‘Carmela’ – Brought back from the Big Island in September 07. Grew a new growth which is nearly mature, is now growing 3 giant new roots.
Odcm. Mayfair ‘Golden Gate’ – growing a new growth. This plant suffered a severe case of sunburn and dehydration several years ago. I think it needs to be divided and repotted this spring.
C. Chocolate Drop ‘Volcano Queen’ - also brought back from the Big Island Sept. 07. It just finished growing a new growth and is currently growing new roots.
Colmanara Wildcat ‘Carmela’ – growing a new growth & new roots.
Slc. Lakeland – the nearly dead s/h experiment plant, growing 3 new growths and lots of new roots.

Dtps. Kenneth Schubert ‘Purple Martin’ – growing a new leaf & new roots.
P. Bright Peacock ‘Maple Bridge’ – growing new roots.
Paph. Delenatii – growing a new leaf. I don’t think it’s a bud.
P. Flower Child ‘Carmela’ – this plant has a damaged crown & has grown 2 new leaves that are each acting like 2 separate crowns. It looks really weird.
P. SIO’s Night Leopard – this is the other half dead s/h experiment plant. Growing 2 new roots.

Bllra. Marfitch ‘Howard’s Dream’ – has 2 new growths. Still doing battle with scale, and it’s still quarantined
Sederia japonica – growing 3 new roots

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Way to go, Terri and Ross

I can't really get around to see everything in the room right now since we're in "freeze-mode" so I'll post my list in a few days. Lots of stuff going on here

Great going Terri and Ross! Terri - you've got a great collection there! I really like the variety that you have there. Thanks for starting up this thread this month.

Ross, how far has the spike on your Sedirea got to? Mine is still really tiny...

I've been going through mine today, but I've not finished yet - and there are some photos that I want to get as well. Hopefully, I'll be posting my status tomorrow.

Sue, Keep warm!!!

Wow, nice collections! Nice pics! The only ones that are in bloom for me at the moment is a couple Phals. 'Mount Lip,' Brother Peter Peter 'Star', and Brother Sara Gold 'Peach,' a dendrobium noid, den. Iki. BUT! BUT! BUT! My Mtssa Jerry's Pick is now beginning to open and it's my first bloom with this one, and I have a "Rehfieldara Jerry"
'Pacific Empire' that is going to open soon, and my Brassavola 'Little Stars' that is about to open. I have a nice little spike showing promise on my Aerangis luteo-alba and something interesting happening to my November acquired Restrepia braclypus. Everything I've listed after I said BUT! BUT! BUT!....is all new to me. I have had some of them about a year, but do not know what they will look like other than pics I've seen. Kind of like giving birth, but without the pain....well, maybe a little pain.
Not bad coming from someone with no patience, huh? kiki-do

Sue, the only thing I've done to my tetragonum is mount it shortly after it arrived. It lives in with the Masdies - min/max for December was approx. 48F/62F (8C/13C).

Unless the buds on mine are going to double in size before they open, I think my flowers are a lot smaller than the ones in the photo of your's Sue. The buds on mine are currently under 1/2 inch. I know that tetragonum is quite variable, and also that what were once different varieties have now been reclassified as different species. I wonder if maybe we have quite different plants?

We must have different variations of it...in any case, yours is fantastic!!! We'll have to compare again once mine decides to put out some buds again
