Default Importing photos in Flickr from another photo hosting website?

I feel bad, not coming to OB much anymore, but 'spare time' doesn't seem to be part of my vocabulary anymore...

I was trying to upload a few more photos to my Webshots account, and they have completely changed the website and renamed themselves, in a way I really don't like. For one, there are no folders anymore. Everything is lumped together orchids, pets, person pics, etc And some I can't even find again.

I have a dormant Flickr account and I'd like to migrate my pics there. Is there anyway to have Flickr go fetch them from Webshots, or do I have to re upload everything manually from my computer? That's a lot of photos!

And now all my webshot photos embedded in threads are now dead links...

Your best bet is iCloud. I loaded all my pictures there and it will never change or get scrambled folders....but I use flicker to load my pictures here....as far as I know, Flicker can upload pictures only from your hard drive and will consider pictures from other site as private....
whereas in iCloud; you can use it to upload to flicker via your hard drive.
You need to download to your hard drive all materials from your old storage account....and upload them to iCloud(anything below 5G is free)

This might/might not be helpful to you.

Flickr: The Help Forum: Transferring photos from Webshots®

It seems a lot of people are faced with this problem at the moment with Webshots changing its service.

Bud, I'm not sure why you think a service like iCloud could not change. The standard terms and conditions of any of these web-hosted services say that they reserve the right to change the service at any stage. I would imagine this is the same for iCloud - did you read the T&Cs before signing up? This is especially true of any free service that you may avail of. Unfortunately this is one of the drawbacks of hosted services or cloud computing - they're convenient but you're ultimately at the whim of the service provider.

Thanks for the help! That's what I figured though, there's no easy way to do it I still have everything on the computer and backup hard drive, so 'll upload directly from there. Luckily I don't have an insamely huge amount of photos to upload.

I agree, iCloud is not safe either from changes. Internet is not my primary photo backup (got a hard drive for that), but it's nice'just in case' and easier to share pics (except for the darn new Webshots...)

I'll be around again soon to post photos, this weekend I'm hoping (if not snowed in!) to go buy my very first DSLR camera. I've been wanting one for years, and been putting aside money for it for the past year and a half, since starting my job as a PhD student. I'm getting a Canon EOS 600D (Rebel T3i in the USA). The extra features on the newer 650D/T4i aren't worth the extra 200€ IMO.

I agree. It's not that there's anything wrong with the web-hosted services (I recently created an account for the Picasa web albums), you just have to be smart about the way you use it and always keep backups so that you're never really stuck.

Ooohhhh!!!!! Very nice camera! A friend had a 600D and it's really lovely. My husband and I have been looking for a DSLR as well, but I think we're going to buy second-hand and get one of the older models like a 350D. I hope you really enjoy your new toy!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to this camera. I like the 600D, with its pivoting screen. But i'm glad to buy it here (Netherlands), all the cameras I checked are about 100€ cheaper than in France.
