New orchids!
Default New orchids!

Last weekend was our show, this weekend was yet another. My new acquisitions are:

1) Burrageara Nelly Isler
2) Onc. Twinkle 'Fantasy'
3) Den x delicatum album
4) Phal bellina x sib
5) unknown butterwort

Number 1 and 3 are completely new types to me and any tips are welcome. I was also curious if the little Onc. Twinkle gets the same care as larger oncidiums or if they need more water and less light? I did use small pieces of lava rock as it felt right. The twinkle also has no leaf markings and as I purged my collection of oncidiums because I couldn't stand those leaf markings, any advice how to avoid them in the future? And does anyone else get the urge to hum 'twinkle, twinkle, little star' around these? : )
I met quite a few people at both shows, carrying masses of bags or a large box that told me they had no idea where they were going to put their new orchids. It is always good to be around those who understand the addictive nature of plant collecting and share the same problems.

Great haul! Yeah, I went to our show thinking I would buy one or two mini's. But the enablers only had to mention others for me to walk away with about 10 new ones, lol... It didn't take much for me to bend as you can tell!

I nearly bought many, many, more but, fortunately, I reined myself in before it was too late. I have the last good window filled with these last additions.

Re: Onc Twinkle - just my experience - I have rotted a couple, I'd probably let the media dry inbetween waterings.

I killed my first twinkle, rot came, was defeated and came back months later (although it was much dryer than the one I have now).

My second one is in sphagnum. I never let it dry completly, mist it in the morning and I have a fan on it from morning to night (to keep it from the leaf markings). It will be flowering in a week or two

Great haul!!
I notice the same thing as shows too, people hauling massive amounts of orchids, and buying more all while telling the vendor that they have no clue where to put all these new plants.... I always come home with too many! 'Luckily' I seem to kill off plants at an equally impressive rate, so there's always space being made....
